Longevity is what the three winners of the Nursing at Its Best Award all have in common.
The Center for Excellence in Aging Services and Long Term Care has awarded its first ever recognition awards to healthcare workers who work in long-term care under three categories, nurse assistant, nurse, and administrator. Antonio Rodriguez, a CNA, at Encompass Health in El Paso, TX, has 17 years of experience working with patients. He prides himself on always being on time so his patients do not have to wait, and providing his patients and their family members the reassurance that he is there to help take care of the patients needs.
Patricia Wilson, an LVN at the Arbour at Westminster Manor in Austin, TX, has worked in long-term care for 24 years. Her nominator at her facility wrote that everyone loves Patricia, and she loves her patients. For example, she will take time out to read a book to a patient in between treatments and paperwork, and when assisting in the dining room she knows how each patient likes their coffee. Additionally, after one patient’s care plan meeting, the family always ask if Patricia is happy because they want her to stay.
Girley Maldisa, RN, is the director of nursing at Retama Manor in Harlingen, where she leads her staff to perform at a 5 star quality rating. In her more than 20 years of experience she has maintained a 90th percentile in customer satisfaction score nationally for patients and employees, and has adopted and implemented the use of alternative therapies to reduce the overprescribing of antipsychotic drugs to manage patients disease processes. Furthermore, she is a certified dementia care practitioner, and as a leader she listens and seeks employee input in the decision making process for environmental changes and resident care needs.
We congratulate all three winners for the wonderful job they are doing to impact their patients’ lives, their coworkers, and the long-term care community throughout Texas.
