Dr. Joiner-Rogers has been an RN since 1975. She has worked in long-term care (LTC) since 1979. She began work in LTC facilities in Memphis, TN. She moved to Austin, TX in 1982 and continued to work, educate, and/or conduct research in geriatrics since that time, all from The University of Texas at Austin. Since 2007, she gained additional expertise as an Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist working in Assisted Living and nursing facilities in Austin TX.

Currently, she teaches Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist students and is the Director of the Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist program at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include care of patients with multiple chronic conditions, chronic illness and involvement of chronically ill older-aged adults in health care decisions, and in inter-professional education for Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialists students.
