The Center for Excellence in Aging Services and Long Term Care has received a $50,000 grant from the Aetna Foundation to create training courses for health care providers that improve the quality of care provided to Texas residents living in nursing homes.
The courses will use the latest technological software to greatly enhance the free educational content offerings currently available to the long-term care community statewide, with the goal of improving health outcomes for all Texas residents. The funds will directly support the work of the content creators and design team to develop high-quality, interactive courses that increase user engagement.
“Nurses and nurse aides in the facilities have a demanding job,” Tracie Harrison, professor at The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Nursing and the Center’s director, said. “We know that they want and need more training, and we are very glad that the Aetna Foundation has provided us with the means to do this work.”
The Aetna Foundation awards annual grants to non-profits who are making a difference in their communities.
“The Center for Excellence in Aging Services and Long Term Care is well-positioned to impact the health outcomes of thousands of residents in long-term care,” Patrina Fowler, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Texas Medicaid, said. “By creating these resources and tools and making them freely available to anyone, the Center is serving a critical need.”
