Susana Baumann is a Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Epidemiologist for the Texas Department of State Health Services in Region 9/10. Susana was a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician for 2 years, and an Infection Preventionist in Austin area healthcare facilities for 3 years before joining DSHS as a healthcare data analyst, where she became Certified in Infection Control in 2017. As an HAI epidemiologist, she works with facilities to address issues of MDROs, outbreaks, antibiotic stewardship and reduction of device-associated infections. She has a special interest in environmental infection control, policies and risk management, and collaboration and enhanced communication between local and state health departments and healthcare facilities.
Current projects with Texas DSHS include CDC’s initiative for reducing CLABSI and CAUTI rates, called Targeted Assessment and Prevention (TAP) strategy, CDC’s Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) program, and Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network (ARLN). All of these programs are dedicated to the improvement of infection control programs in healthcare facilities.
