Rita Charon, an MD with a PhD in English, founded the Program in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. She is Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center. Aakriti Pandita is a fiction writer and physician specializing in infectious diseases who was also one of the first COVID-19 patients in Rhode Island. The two will discuss the power of narrative in healthcare, the role of the humanities in understanding the current pandemic, and the differential effects of the pandemic on communities of color in the United States.
